The Babylonian Talmud Translation Project at the Rome International Conference on Anti-Semitism

By sviluppo on 29 January 2018

On 29 January, the Babylonian Talmud Translation Project participated in the “International Conference of Rome on the responsibility of States, Institutions and individuals in the fight against anti-Semitism in the OECD area”, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, at the Palazzo della Farnesina in Rome.

The Babylonian Talmud Translation Project is not only the largest translation project to italian language ever realized but also represents an innovative attempt to spread, with a global and systemic approach, of jewish tradition and culture, through the collaboration between private individuals and national Italian Institutions.

Representing the PTTB was the Project Director, Clelia Piperno, who participated in some of the discussion sessions. The PTTB exhibition space, also visited by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Min. Angelino Alfano, dedicated in particular to the “Traduco” software has been really esteemed.

The participation of the PTTB at the International Conference of Rome has to be read precisely in relation to the importance of the cultural dimension, as a tool for combating anti-Semitism. The particular characteristic of technological innovation linked to PTTB also contributes to the pursuit of this objective. The “Traduco” software, developed by the CNR, partner of the Project, is a modern and virtual bridge between different cultures and traditions. The “Traduco” support software, result of Italian research and elaborated according to the principles of computational linguistics and the most advanced editorial standards, makes it possible to standardize translation, notes and comments accompanying the text and autonomously provides for the indexing process.
