TRIESTE: Babylonian Talmud Translation Project: humanism and technology in support of intercultural dialogue

By management on 7 December 2021

On Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 5 p.m. at the Jewish Community Museum of Trieste “Carlo and Vera Wagner” was presented the event:

“Humanism and Technology in Support of Intercultural Dialogue.”

The word “Talmud” means teaching, instruction but also discussion. And both in the case of teaching and even more so in discussion, it is necessary to understand the terms used as best as possible. To understand in order to know and to know in order to understand. This is the basis of the Babylonian Talmud Translation Project, a translation that is carried out through a digital platform named “Traduco” created specifically in collaboration with the Institute of Computational Linguistics of the CNR .

The meeting, which aimed to institute a discussion and debate, for the first time also in Trieste, was attended by:

Rav Alexander Meloni, Chief Rabbi of the Jewish Community of Trieste;

Clelia Piperno, Director of the Babylonian Talmud Translation Project,Rav;

Ariel Haddad Coordinator of the Jewish Museum of Trieste Carlo and Vera Wagner

and David Dattilo, Head of Research and Development of the Babylonian Talmud Translation Project and Head of YESHIVA’ Project.

President of the Trieste Press Circle, Pierluigi Sabatti, moderated the meeting.
