GENOA: European Day of Jewish Culture: The Talmud the book of dialogue and confrontation
During the XXII European Day of Jewish Culture, the meeting ” The Talmud: the book of Dialogue and Comparison” was held on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at 5:00 pm at the Genoa Synagogue.
Listening, exchange and intercultural dialogue were the three key words that ferried us to the heart of Jewish culture, through the speeches of Professor Clelia Piperno Director of the Babylonian Talmud Translation Project, David Dattilo Head of Research and Development of the Babylonian Talmud Translation Project and Head of the YeshivĂ Project and Rav Giuseppe Momigliano Chief Rabbi of the city of Genoa.
Building a social culture open to dialogue is the first step in creating space for encounters between different cultures and religions. From this perspective, “Dialogues,” the central theme of this 22nd edition, are bridges to overcome the limits of indifference, to break down barriers between people and communities and open up to new scenarios of confrontation and coexistence.
The work of the Babylonian Talmud and the Project’s great work of translation represent an opportunity to discover and be enriched by the essence of the Jewish people, for it is only through knowledge that opportunities for cultural growth, social dialogue and richness can be opened up, which are indispensable elements for creating millenarian barrier-free contexts capable of welcoming different knowledge, values and languages.
