Donation of the Berakhòt Treaty to the survivor Elie Marey

By sviluppo on 8 January 2018

The donation ceremony took place at the end of the dialogue between Elie Marey, Sami Modiano and Piero Terracina, organized in collaboration with the Fondazione Museo della Shoah.

The Director of the Babylonian Talmud Translation Project, Clelia Piperno, donated a copy of the Berakhòt treatise (volume edited by Gianfranco Di Segni) to Elie Marey, survivor of Auschwitz – Birkenau, at the end of an event organized in collaboration with Fondazione Museo della Shoah.

The meeting, moderated by the historian Marcello Pezzetti, allowed the large audience to hear for the first time in Italy the testimony of Elie Marey who talked with the survivors Sami Modiano and Piero Terracina. This exciting event, which took place at Casina dei Vallati at the Portico d’Ottavia (Rome), ended with the donation ceremony of the first Talmud treatise translated into Italian, Berakhòt (published by La Giuntina), from the hands of Massimo Inguscio, president of the CNR, partner of the Projec

“The thrill to donate to Marey, Modiano and Terracina the first treatise of the Talmud, a fundamental text not only for the Jewish world but also for the entire Italian and Western culture, repays all the efforts made in the last years – said the Director of the Babilonese Talmud Translation Project, Clelia Piperno – We need to preserve our memory and at the same time look to the future, with a view to inclusion between different cultures, experiences and dimensions of life. A value, that of inclusion, which is the basis of our project and which was recognized primarily by the Italian State “.

The Babylonian Talmud Translation Project is realized thanks to an agreement protocol between the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, MIUR, CNR and UCEI-CRI and has as its final goal in the digitized translation in Italian of the Babylonian Talmud, through the “Traduco” software conceived and developed in collaboration with ILC-CNR.
